Oddar MeancheY provincial police on Tuesday arrested an ice company worker who allegedly hacked a co-worker to death with a machete in Anlong Veng district.
Major Ven Kosal, deputy chief of the provincial general crimes department, yesterday identified the suspect as Seng Bory, 17, a worker at an ice company in Anlong Veng commune, and the victim as Sam Samon, 19, who lived in Thlath commune.
Maj Kosal said the murder took place at about 9pm on Tuesday at the workplace.
He noted that on October 29, the victim slapped the suspect on the face and kicked him during an argument.
Maj Kosal said Mr Bory did not react at the time, but prepared a plot to kill Mr Samon for revenge.
He noted that on Tuesday night he waited for the victim to finish work and killed him outside the company’s gates.
“He was angry with the victim for beating him before,” Maj Kosal said. “For revenge, he hacked Mr Samon on the chest, stomach and back, causing serious injuries.”
He noted that the suspect fled the scene, but other workers who witnessed the crime alerted police who took Mr Samon to the provincial referral hospital where he later died.
Maj Kosal said that police located and arrested Mr Bory later that night and seized the machete from him.
He added that the suspect is preliminarily accused by police of premeditated murder and faces at least 20 years in jail instead of a life sentence because he is underage.
Maj Kosal noted that Mr Bory is still being detained at provincial police headquarters and will be sent to provincial court today.
