Cambodia ‘s national Futsal team are in Indonesia to represent the kingdom at the Asean Football Federation’s (AFF) annual Futsal Championships.
The 16-strong squad departed for Jakarta on Saturday morning. The AFF MNC Futsal Championships, which get underway today, sees a field of eight teams vying for the top trophy.
Cambodia find themselves in Group A alongside hosts Indonesia, Myanmar, and Malaysia. Meanwhile Group B consists of Thailand, Vietnam, Brunei, and Timor Leste.
The Kouprey’s will meet Malaysia for their opener today at 11:30 a.m local time before a date with Myanmar tomorrow morning. Their final group game, which could prove decisive, is a Wednesday 2 p.m fixture against the hosts.
The Championships have been held 14 times since its inaugural edition in 2001. Thailand are streets ahead of the competition and are the team to beat having lifted the trophy 13 times.
Cambodia have only participated on three occasions with fourth-placed finishes in 2003 and 2006. In 2012, they failed to get past the knockout rounds.
