Police in Kandal province yesterday recovered the body of one of three siblings who went missing after their boat capsized on Monday.

A father and his three children, along with a girlfriend of one of his sons, took the boat out for a joy ride on Monday on the Bassac river in Sa’ang district.

Strong winds led to high waves that then capsized the boat. The three siblings were unable to swim and could not be saved.

Svay Rolum commune police chief Captain Lor Sokhai said yesterday that authorities recovered the body of Rin Srey Oun about four kilometers from the location where the boat sank.

“Now police in other communes along the river are looking for the other two,” he said. “We will not stop looking for the missing until all of the bodies are found.”

According to a police report, the missing victims were siblings Rin Makara, Rin Srey Rath and Ms Srey Oun, whose body has been handed to her family for a funeral.

“We appeal to all villagers living along the river to report to police if they find the other two bodies,” Cap Sokhai added.
