UN human rights chief thanks Hun Sen for allowing OHCHR to operate

The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights has thanked Prime Minister Hun Sen for allowing the Office of UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to continue to operate in the country for two more years.

During a meeting with Mr Hun Sen in Geneva, Michelle Bachelet, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights said that the OHCHR will continue to cooperate and provide support to Cambodia.

Ms Michelle has noticed that Cambodia had improvement on human rights, especially the rights of women, children, workers, and education.

Mr Hun Sen has requested cooperation on human rights issues between the United Nations and Cambodia to ensure understanding of each other.

“Although we have different stance, cooperation between Cambodia and the United Nations on human rights issue needs to continue, specially upholding its mandate for two more years of the Office of the United Nations in Cambodia,” he said.

Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn and Ms Michelle signed the Memorandum of Understanding concerning the OHCHR office.
