Preah Vihear Provincial Court yesterday charged a farmer over the repeated rapes of two young children in Preah Vihear city.
Colonel Chhao Vuthy, city police chief, identified the accused as Klaing Sokkhen, 36, a widower living in Pal Hal commune.
He noted that the accused is charged with rape with aggravating circumstances and faces up to 15 years in jail if convicted. Mr Sokkhen is now in prison pending trial.
Col Vuthy noted that being a widower, the accused often watched porn on his phone.
He said that on Wednesday morning, the accused persuaded an eight-year-old neighbour to come to his house to watch his television while her parents were out.
Col Vuthy said that while she was watching the television, Mr Sokkhen grabbed her and raped her.
“After the rape, he paid her $0.50 and told her not to tell her mother or anyone else about what happened,” he said. “He threatened to kill her if she told anyone.”
Col Vuthy said that on Friday morning, the accused again persuaded the girl to come to his house where he raped her before paying her $0.50.
He noted that on Saturday morning, Mr Sokkhen persuaded the girl’s seven-year-old cousin to come to his house and also raped her.
Col Vuthy said that the accused also paid the child $0.50 and warned her not to tell anyone.
He noted that upon returning home the girl told her mother who then filed a complaint with police.
Col Vuthy said the accused was arrested that afternoon, after which the eight-year-old girl also reported the rapes to her mother and police.
Another city police officer, who asked not to be named, said yesterday that Mr Sokkhen admitted committing the rapes, saying that he did so after watching porn on his phone.
