Anachak Baitong were victors of their second consecutive Heng Samrin Cup after securing their latest trophy with a 1-0 win over TN Kandal in Saturday’s final at Phnom Penh’s Olympic Stadium.
The winner came midway through the second half as Lim Chan Leap rose highest in the box to bury his header beyond the Kandal keeper.
The winners received $10,000, with runners-up receiving $6,000. Awards for Fair-Play, Best Goalkeeper, and Top Scorer were also handed out.
Vong Soth, Minister of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation and Chairman of the National Council of Cambodia and advisor to Heng Samrin expressed his admiration for the 21 participating teams and urged athletes to continue their efforts to prepare for next season’s competition.
The second annual edition of the cup began in August with 21 teams fighting it out for the ultimate prize.
Anachek Baitong were also winners in last year’s final, where they defeated the Cambodian Muslim Youth Alliance. The cup, an amateur football competition, seeks to promote the development of Cambodian football, especially aiming to get talented youngsters experience at professional teams to compete in the top Cambodian leagues.
