A number of villagers apparently consumed tainted rice wine at Damray village, Boeng Cha commune, in Sambo district of Kratie province on Oct. 18.

Noun Sarin, deputy district police chief, said that two men and one woman died, and 41 villagers were ambulanced to the provincial hospital for treatment, six of whom are on the way to recovery.

Despite having no concrete evidence as yet, everything points to methanol being used to “stretch” the rice wine.
