The Health Ministry yesterday ordered the recall of Coffee Like or Café Kamlang Ses which has been found to contain male sex stimulants that can lead to heart attacks.
A ministry statement said that according to an analysis by the National Laboratory Centre, the coffee product contains Sildenafil and Tadalafil which can harm consumers’ health.
The ministry warned people to immediately stop using the product and asked the company that imports it stop importing, advertising, selling or distributing the coffee and to also recall it from the market to be destroyed.
“The ministry will take strict legal action against any company that imports, advertises, sells or distributes the coffee product Coffee Like which contains Sildenafil and Tadalafil,” it said.
Coffee Like has been advertised daily on People Radio FM 91 MHz under the name Café Kamlang Ses [horse power coffee] as an aid for those suffering from hyperglycemia and diabetes.
It is also said to increase sperm count and help blood circulation.
The ministry said that it considers the advertisement misleading and without proper scientific basis.
People Radio director DJ Lux said yesterday that he has not yet received information on the matter, but the radio station will follow the ministry’s instruction.
“I will check with those responsible for getting sponsors for programmes if there is any advertisement about the coffee product,” he said. “We usually accept advertisements but do not know what the products contain.”
“I cannot confirm if we are currently running the advertisement, but if we are we will follow the ministry’s directive to stop,” he added.
