The Agriculture Ministry will distribute about 3,000 tonnes of rice seeds to the farmers affected by floods across the Kingdom, an official said.
Ngin Chhay, director of the ministry’s general agriculture department, said the ministry has prepared about 3,000 tonnes of rice seeds to aid farmers whose crops were destroyed by floods.
This weekend, the ministry will transport and distribute 200 tonnes of rice seeds to farmers in Kratie province, he said.
Mr Chhay added that the ministry has already transported rice seeds to the provinces of Stung Treng, Kampot, Preah Sihanouk, Koh Kong and Banteay Meanchey.
“So far, we transported and distributed about 500 tonnes of rice seeds,” he said. “We plan to transport more rice seeds to other provinces, including Battambang, Kandal, Kampong Cham and Prey Veng.”
Kratie provincial authorities will distribute the rice seeds to 2,264 families on Sunday in four districts hit by floods, he said.
According to a report from the Provincial Hall, 3,600 families have been affected by floods in Kratie, leading to 2,149 hectares of farmland being damaged.
