King Norodom Sihamoni has congratulated the People’s Republic of China on its National Day, noting that Cambodia’s relationship with China has grown stronger in recent years.
“On the National Day and 69th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Her Majesty the Queen Mother, the Royal Family, the Royal Government and the people of Cambodia join me to extend our warmest congratulations to Your Excellency and, through you, to the Communist Party, the State Council, the People’s Liberation Army and the people of China,” King Sihamoni said in a letter to Chinese President Xi Jinping prior to National Day on Monday.
During National Day celebrations in Beijing on Sunday, King Sihamoni was seated next to President Xi and became the only foreign guest to be received by the Chinese State Council to mark the formation of the People’s Republic of China.
King Sihamoni said China has made significant economic and social achievements, which are praised by the international community.
“Her Majesty the Queen Mother and I remember fondly of our yearly meetings with Your Excellency and First Lady Peng Liyuan,” the King said. “We reiterate our heartfelt gratitude to Your Excellency for welcoming us to have medical check-up and relaxation in China at any time. All the members of the Khmer Royal Family highly cherish the special friendship with your great country.”
Frequent high-level official exchanges mark a growing relationship between the two nations, the King added.
“I am confident that thanks to the long-standing fraternal friendship between our two people, the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership of Cooperation between our two countries will always be promoted to a new height,” he said.
