PHNOM PENH, September 2, (Khmer Times) – Dr. Sok Touch, the rector of Khemarak University, and prominent political analyst spoke at the Peace Forum on Sustaining Peace in Cambodia.
The forum was organized by the Peace Institute of Cambodia and Youth for Peace.
He said, “Cambodia has peace, but needs to enforce its laws and change human attitude to make it sustainable.”
Another political analyst, Dr. Lao Mong Hay, noted that laws cannot be enforced properly without morality.
Reinforcing this view, Dr. Sok Touch said that it is human attitude that causes the problem, that’s why Cambodia must also try to change the people’s awareness for ethics.
He stressed that previous leaders, who were lax in the matter of ethics, came into power by revolution or coup and not by means of a democratic election.
That the political parties have made unwise decisions, not benefiting Cambodia’s political culture, and that the National Election Committee is not nonpartisan, were other points Dr. Sok Touch made.
