Kratie Provincial Court yesterday charged a 55-year-old soldier who allegedly raped a four-year-old girl in Chetr Borey district.
Captain Sok Chanthoeun, district police chief of staff, identified the accused as Loch Suy, living in the district’s Thmar Kre commune. He was charged with rape with aggravating circumstances and faces up to 15 years in jail if convicted.
Cap Chanthoeun noted that Mr Suy was arrested by anti-human trafficking and juvenile protection police on Saturday following a complaint by the child’s mother.
He said that at about 10am on Saturday, the accused persuaded the victim, who was a neighbour, to watch TV in his house in the commune’s Thmey village when his wife and five children were out.
Cap Chanthoeun added that when the girl entered the house, Mr Suy caught her and touched her genitals before raping her.
