Over 130 NagaWorld Kind Hearts volunteers participated in World Cleanup Day (WCD) in support of the country’s plan to help create a cleaner, healthier and waste-free Cambodia on Saturday, 15 September.

The event was organised by the Ministry of Environment, Let’s do it! Cambodia and GoGreen Cambodia.

The World Cleanup Day initiative is the biggest civic action combating the global waste problem with 13 million volunteers across 155 countries.

According to GoGreen Cambodia, an estimated 2.12 billion tonnes of waste are dumped uncontrolled across the planet every year. Last year, the kingdom produced 1.42 million tonnes of waste. In Phnom Penh alone, there are 2,700 tonnes of garbage daily, and the rampant littering adds to the problem.

On the clean-up day, NagaWorld Kind Hearts volunteers, together with thousands of other participants, lent their helping hands to clean up public spaces around the city. Students and local community members from 1,646 communes across 25 Cambodian provinces also grabbed their cleaning tools and joined the movement.

NagaWorld Managing Director Mr. Pern Chen said, “NagaWorld Kind Hearts’ participation of the worldwide campaign is a key step in raising environmental awareness with our hope to drive long-term behaviour change towards a sustainable future for Cambodia. Echoing the motto of World Cleanup Day, let’s join hands to control waste pollution and protect our environment to make our world a cleaner and happier place!”
