Prime Minister Hun Sen today will deliver a keynote speech at the 15th edition of the China-Asean Expo in Nanning, the capital of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in southern China.
The expo is an annual event that seeks to deepen relations between Asean and China and expand trade.
Mr Hun Sen will be accompanied by top members of his catbinet, including Hor Namhong, the Deputy Prime Minister, Pan Sorasak, the Minister of Commerce, and Thong Khon, the Minister of Tourism, as well as representatives of the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce, according to an announcement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
“The China-Asean Expo aims to promote trade and investment between Asean and China and plays an important role in attracting Chinese investors and tourists to the region,” the announcement said.
During his stay in China, Mr Hun Sen will meet high-ranking Chinese dignitaries, receive courtesy calls from business leaders in Guangxi province, and give interviews to Chinese media outlets,” it added.
Prime Minister Hun Sen and Han Zheng, Vice-Premier of China, will preside over the ribbon cutting ceremony to inaugurate the Cambodian pavilion, it added.
Last year, Cambodia welcomed 5.6 million foreign tourists, an increase of 11.8 percent. In 2017, China ranked number one in terms of tourists by nationality, with 1.2 million Chinese nationals visiting the Kingdom, a 46 percent hike compared to the year before, according to the Cambodian Ministry of Tourism.
Chinese investment accounted for 20.2 percent of all foreign investment in the Kingdom from 1994 to 2017. In 2017 alone, China invested $1.43 billion in Cambodia, 27 percent of all foreign investment that year, according to a report by the Council for the Development of Cambodia.
The 15th China-Asean Expo is being held in Nanning on the 10-12 of the month under the theme “Jointly building the 21th Century Maritime Silk Road and the China-Asean Community of Innovation”.
