Xiaomi president Lin Bin took the wraps off the first official image of the company’s upcoming Mi Mix 3 handset, the third-generation in its bezel-less flagship smartphone.
The device takes from the playbook of the Oppo Find X with a hidden sliding camera allowing the Chinese company to slim the bezels down to near nothingness.
While the market-leading Apple iPhone X flaunts a beautiful display, it sports what many consider an unpleasant notch where it houses the camera and faceID sensors. Similarly, Samsung’s S9 and S9+ lack the notch instead opting for larger top and bottom bezels where it can locate the camera and other assortments of sensors. Xiaomi has eliminated both of these problems by adopting a sliding camera component.
While release details are yet to be announced, Xiaomi is said to be targeting an October release. Specifications and price are also a mystery but are sure to be on the upper end. This means likely a Snapdragon 845 chip, and 6/8 GB RAM as standard. Xiaomi may have chosen to integrate the fingerprint sensor into the display, a la the Vivo Nex.
In recent days, Xiaomi’s product management director Donovan Sung confirmed 5G support for Xiaomi’s flagship. With almost no 5G networks in existence yet, Sung declares he “can’t wait for the official rollout of 5G next year.”
Sung says benefits of 5G include download speeds that are “more than 10x faster than 4G speeds.”
