Three top military commanders appointed as senior ministers

RCAF commander-in-chief and his two deputy commanders-in-chief were appointed as senior ministers in the new government, according to the document.

According to the document signed yesterday by Prime Minister Hun Sen, General Pol Saroeun and his deputies, General Kun Kim and General Meas Sophea become senior ministers in the new government.

Defence Ministry spokesman General Chhum Sucheat said that Gen Saroeun and Gen Kim will resign from the National Assembly.

“His Excellencies Pol Saroeun and Kun Kim will resign from their posts as lawmakers because they become senior ministers,” Gen Sucheat said.

Before the July 29’s election, Gen Saroeun transferred the acing RCAF commander-in-chief to his deputy General Sao Sokha while he ran for a national assembly seat in Preah Sihanouk province, and Gen Kim transferred the acting RCAF’s chief of staff to Lieutenant General Hun Manet, RCAF deputy commander-in-chief and RCAF’s deputy chief of staff while he represented Oddar Meanchey province in the national assembly.

Last month, Gen Sophea resigned from his post as a lawmaker following a request by the Cambodian People’s Party.
