The Football Federation of Cambodia on Saturday released a list of its 23-man squad set to face Malaysia in an international friendly on September 10.
There were plenty of surprises in store for fans as the Kouprey’s – now led by Japanese midfielder and General Manager Keisuke Honda – surprised with the exclusion of star players Chan Vathanaka, Khuon Laboravy, Rous Samoeun, and keeper Um Sereirath.
Vathanaka’s exclusion through injury leaves Honda with a forward line of Prak Monyudom, Keo Sokpheng, Reung Bunheing, and Sin Kakada.
Also set to miss out of Honda’s plans through injury is Rous Samoeun. The Visakha defender underwent knee surgery in Vietnam with coach Hok Sochetra confirming he expected to be out of action for between five to six months.
“If he keeps himself in good shape he can go back to training after he recovers, said the coach. “he can continue to play after he recovers.
In a surprising revelation which shocked football observers aroundthe world last month, Honda was announced as General Manager of Cambodia.
However, due to his lack of coaching licences reports suggested the role of the head coach will be taken up by Argentinian Felix Agustín Gonzalez Dalmas with the Melbourne Victory midfielder providing tactical advice in his role as GM.
