With Cambodia beginning to recover from the high of three medals won at the weekend, the kingdom’s athletes continued its participation at the ongoing 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games yesterday.
The Soft Tennis squad were among those in action at the JSC Tennis Courts. At the time of going press, the Men’s Singles Preliminary Group E, Kann Sophorn fell 4-1 to Thailand’s Uayporn Sorrachet, and 3-4 to Meena Jay of India.
In Men’s Singles Preliminary Group G, Doeum Samsocheaphearun defeated Le Phuoc Vinh of Vietnam 4-2. Earlier in the day he suffered a 4-0 loss to Indonesia’s Sie Alexander.
In Women’s Singles Preliminary Group D, Rin Sotheary was bested 4-0 by South Korea’s Kim Jiyeon before falling again to Indonesia’s own Kusrini Dede.
A win came from young Meth Mariyan who defeated India’s Namita Seth 3-4. She then fell to Indonesia’s Pitri Rahayu 4-0.
Cambodia today compete in the Mixed Doubles Preliminary Group E with Rin Sotheary and Sambath Orn set to face Filipino duo Noel Damian Jr and Conchita Corazon Manalac. They will face Thailand later in the day.
Also this morning, the pairing of Yi Sarsarith and Mariyan Meth will face Thai and Korean opposition. The Men’s team preliminaries will take place on Friday.
In the Men’s 200 metre’s athletics, Sokong Pen registered a respectable 22.44 seconds in Heat 3 of the qualification stage at the GBK Stadium – a time which did not see him progress from the heats. With a time of 20.74, Oman’s Al Sadi Mohammed Obaid topped the pile.
