Flooding from Sesan river is hitting Talat commune in Stung Treng province this morning after the water level is above the warning level.
Phan Yuth, Siem Pang district governor, said about 800 families living along the river in the district have been affected by flooding and now the flood is hitting Sesan district’s Talat commune.
“Due to heavy raining and water flowing from Laos, the flood is hitting Stung Treng again,” Mr Yuth said.
The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology said yesterday that flooding of the Mekong, Sekong and Sesan rivers was caused by tropical storm Bebinca and that the death toll from floods in some provinces have risen to 18.
According to National Committee for Disaster Management, the flood hit six provinces, including Kratie, Stung Treng, Tboung Khmum, Kampong Cham, Prey Veng and Kandal.
A total of 61,900 houses were flooded and 5,660 families had been evacuated to 53 safe places.
It said that 20 houses were moved due to the collapse of a river bank, 194 schools were flooded, 28,171 hectares of rice were flooded, of which 2,456 hectares were destroyed.
