The King designates Hun Sen as PM

King Norodom Sihamoni  issued the royal degree reassigning Hun Sen as Prime Minister on Friday, Aug. 17.

The fiat followed the National Election Committee’s release of the official election results, which confirmed a resounding victory for the ruling CPP (Cambodia People’s Party).   The party thereby secured all 125 seats in the National Assembly.

Hun Sen wrote to the King, thanking him for the appointment.  Hun Sen expressed his profound respect to the King.

The PM must form the cabinet for the sixth mandate and seek a vote of confidence from the National Assembly (NA) at its opening session on September 5.

The new government will form the following day and the first Council of Ministers meeting is on September 7.
