PHNOM PENH, Nov. 4, (Khmer Times) – Water Festival boat racers who have been fervently preparing for the festival’s defining event received welcome donations today from government officials to aid in their preparations.

Authorities from Chbar Ampov District provided money and food supplies to seven teams of boat racers as they trained along the Bassac River.

Each team received 300 kilograms of rice, 10 boxes of packaged noodles, 10 boxes of juice, 100 cases of pure water, 5 cases of fish sauce, 15 kilograms of meat steak and about $735.

“All these donations came from the care and love of the government for the people and to encourage the boat racing which is a traditional ceremony of Cambodia,” said Eang Siphan, Chbar Ampov District Governor.

In a message delivered to the racers, Mr. Siphan said, “You all must respect to the rules of competition, obey your commanders, train hard and maintain good manners and morality during the competition to uphold honor.”
