PHNOM PENH, Oct. 31 (Khmer Times) – After ten days of waiting for a response to his letter asking for an end to the scandal of ghost civil servants, Cambodia National Rescue Party’s (CNRP) Son Chhay has sent an official letter to the President of National Assembly Heng Samrin asking him to intervene.
Mr. Chhay had requested in his letter of October 21st to the secretary general of the National Assembly (NA), Mr. Leng Peng Long, that he get rid of ghost civil servants. He also asked that Deputy Secretary General Mith Karen’s relatives get sacked or suspended. Mr Chhay wanted also to see a list of all the NA’s staff in order to look for ghost civil servants.
In the official letter from last Friday, Mr. Chhay asked the president of the NA, Mr. Samrin, to suspend Secretary General Long, and to fire Deputy Secretary General Karen for handing high-level National Assembly positions to his family members.
The second letter was sent after Mr. Chhay received no response to his initial missive , nor did he see any measures being taken against nepotism.
“I submitted the letter to Secretary General Long to find measures to improve the secretary general’s management, by looking into the irregularities of NA budget spending,” he said in the letter.
Mr. Son Chhay also listed seven of Mr. Karen’s family who hold significant positions within the finance and internal auditing departments of the National Assembly.
