The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology on Monday said that tropical storm Bebinca will hit areas of the Indochina region within the upcoming days.
Water Resources Minister Lim Kean Hor said that tropical storm Bebinca travelled to Vietnam yesterday and will continue to affect Thailand, Laos and Cambodia.
Mr Kean Hor said that the storm will continue to affect coastline provinces such as Koh Kong and Preah Sihanouk on Friday and Saturday.
Mr Kean Hor advised residents living along the coastline to halt their day-to-day activities and avoid traversing on water.
“Fishermen should avoid any incidents that could happen and the ministry will inform them further on the weather,” he said.
Additionally, in Banteay Meanchey province, heavy rain has prompted the authorities to assists farmers in collecting rice after floods hit Mongkol Borei district.
Pang Vanaseth, the provincial agriculture department director, said that more than 2,000 hectares of rice paddy have been affected.
According to a National Committee for Disaster Management report, floods have hit six provinces, including Kratie, Stung Treng, Tboung Khmum, Kampong Cham, Prey Veng and Kandal, leaving 15 people dead.
The floods have affected more than 200 communes, while 5,660 families were evacuated in 53 located safety places.
