Cambodia Commemorates 10 Years of Humanitarian King

PHNOM PENH, Oct. 29, (Khmer Times) – Thousands attended the celebrations commemorating the 10-year anniversary of the coronation Cambodia’s King Norodom Sihamoni in front of the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh today.

The boisterous crowd shouted best wishes to the King and a sea of Cambodian flags flew above the gleaming grounds of the Royal Palace Park which was freshly painted for the occasion.

During his address to the crowd, King Sihamoni took the opportunity to promote peace and solidarity among all Cambodians.

Throughout the event, the King was joined on stage by Prime Minister Hun Sen, opposition leader Sam Rainsy, National Assembly President Heng Samrin and numerous senior officials and diplomats.

During the ceremony, the politicians from both sides of the political divide put aside their differences to join in lauding the King for his efforts to unify the country, as well as his humanitarian work.

Speaking about the impact of the King’s charitable endeavors, Mr. Hun Sen praised King Sihamoni for “rehabilitating and developing the nation rapidly.”

Mr. Rainsy echoed the Prime Minister’s sentiments while speaking to members of the media after the ceremony.

“The king is the symbol of national unification, he always encourages all parties to show respect for each other and to seek solutions to conflicts peacefully for the sake of the nation,” Mr. Rainsy said.
