HANOI (Xinhua) – Bird flu virus H5N6 has killed and led to the forced culling of some 10,000 fowls in An Duong district in Vietnam’s northern Hai Phong city after thousands of ducks and chickens raised by two households died in a short period of time. Healthy fowls in the infected flocks were culled to prevent the disease’s spread. In 2017, Vietnam reported H5N6 outbreaks in northern Cao Bang province and central Quang Tri province. Early this year, the Department of Animal Health under the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development warned of a high risk of the return of some bird flu viruses strains in Vietnam.
