MATARAM (AFP) – More than 500 hikers and their guides, who were stuck in their trails on Mount Rinjani in the Indonesian tourist island of Lombok following the 6.4-magnitude quake on early Sunday have been successfully evacuated. The deadly earthquake which killed 14 people, injured scores and damaged thousands of homes, triggered landslides that trapped the hikers on the mountain. “543 hikers have been evacuated – they arrived last night (Monday),” national disaster agency spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said. The hikers descended via route that was unaffected by the landslides.
