Kandal Provincial Court yesterday charged a 29-year-old man with forcibly raping his eight-year-old daughter after watching porn when his wife was not at home in Sa’ang district.
District deputy police chief Captain Sok Chantha identified the accused as a fishermen who allegedly raped the child at about 1pm on Thursday in the bathroom of their house in the district’s Rokar Khpos commune.
Cap Chantha said the accused was charged with rape with aggravating circumstances and faces up to 15 years in jail if convicted. He is now in prison pending his trial.
Cap Chantha said the accused was arrested on Friday after his wife, a farmer, lodged a police report.
He said that according to the police report, the accused had returned home from fishing on Thursday afternoon, when he drank beers and got drunk. The wife had gone to work at a farm in the village and he was alone with the child.
“He caught his own daughter and brought her to the bathroom where he forcibly raped her,” Cap Chantha said. “After the rape, he told the child that he would kill her if she informed her mother or anyone else.”
He said the child was scared and did not tell her mother despite suffering pain in her genitals because the father was in the house.
Cap Chantha said that the next day when the accused went out fishing, the girl informed her mother.
He said that the angry mother immediately reported the rape to police who arrested the accused later that day.
Cap Chantha said that during his interrogation, the accused admitted to the crime, saying that he forcibly raped his daughter because he was drunk.
