Floods claim 600 lives in India

NEW DELHI (Xinhua) – About 600 people have died over the past couple of weeks, hundreds of thousands of houses were washed away or greatly damaged, and millions of people rendered homeless in as many as six states across India due to incessant rains leading to flash floods and landslides.The worst hit area was the state of Maharashtra with 140 deaths, while in Kerala, there were 126 deaths.In West Bengal 116 deaths, 70 in Uttar Pradesh, 52 in Gujarat and 34 in Assam.
