Some 10,000 members and supporters of the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) rallied in Prey Vend town and then cavalcaded through it on the last day of electoral campaigning (Friday, July 27).
At the rally in Sar Kheng, vice president of the CPP, thanked all those who helped in the electoral campaign, which went off smoothly and non-violently.
Referring to the fact that only locals were there he said: “How we organize [the rallies] is different from previous times. We do not want brothers and sisters from afar [to have to take the long journey] to rally here.”
Party members and supporters from other districts or communes can rally nearer home, which will save them money and time.
Mr Kheng could not join the cavalcade because he had to visit and address rallies in other communes of the province.
Cham Chanra, a Prey Veng resident, said that she has all the necessary papers for Election Day (ID card, etc.) and with her family members will vote for the CPP.
Chhim Chimean, a market vendor, hopes that the CPP will get all of the votes in her province. “I find this rally is a happy one, and is attended by many more people than the last time.”
