A 34-year-old farmer was killed on Monday by an angry male buffalo as he tried to bring the animal out of the water where it was playing in Stung Treng province’s Siem Pang district.
District deputy police chief Major Duong Sitha said Phan Thuy of Samor village took the buffalo to the pond at about 2pm.
After about 15 minutes, he tried to take it home but it refused to go. Mr Thuy beat it with a rope. The buffalo attacked him. “Maybe, the male buffalo was angry at the man for beating it and bringing it out of the water while it was playing,” Mr Sitha said.
“The buffalo attacked him and caused serious injuries to his left jaw and right brow. Villagers who saw the attack ran to rescue him but he was already dead.”
The buffalo was caught and is being kept at the police station. The body of the victim has been handed over to his family for a funeral.
