Police are looking for five members of a motorbike theft gang who beat up two youths and robbed them of a luxury motorbike yesterday.

Captain Sok Sopheak, deputy police chief of Boeng Kak II commune in Phnom Penh’s Tuol Kork district, identified the victims as mechanic Thoeun Bunthol, 23, and Phon Naro, 25, a garment worker.

He said the two rode a new Honda Dream for drinks at a nightclub in Phnom Penh’s Sen Sok district before midnight on Sunday.

Cap Sopheak said they left the nightclub at about 2am yesterday and were followed by five youths on motorbikes.

He said the gang members followed them for about 20 minutes and stopped the two along Street 608 in the commune.

“After stopping the victims, the group beat them up and snatched the motorbike key,” he said. “They took the motorbike and fled the scene.”

Cap Sopheak said the victims walked to the commune police office to lodge a report.

Phnom Penh deputy police chief Colonel Tey Visal said yesterday that police are working to identify the suspects and arrest them.
