The Ministry of Environment is drafting an action plan to further strengthen its efforts to protect the environment and people’s health.
Environment Minister Say Samal said on his Facebook page yesterday that the ministry is looking into the financing for environmental protection measures that include solid waste management systems and the regular monitoring of water, soil, and atmospheric quality in the capital and provinces.
He added that the ministry is also preparing legal documents to implement the action plan, which also includes the strengthening of environmental and social impact assessments.
“The ministry will improve its ability to accurately conduct monitoring and testing in order to improve the people’s welfare and contribute toward establishing a clean and green environment for Cambodians of all generations,” he said.
Kim Suvan, a resident living in Phnom Penh, said he supported the move, but requested that the ministry also look into the management of waste along roads.
“To protect the environment, I would like to request the minister to help strengthen the management of waste and remove waste from small roads, just as is being done for main roads,” he said.
