Cambodian coach Lee Tae Hoon says he is optimistic for his team ahead of the impending AFF Under-15 Championships in Indonesia which begin later this month.
Speaking ahead of the squads departure , Tae Hoon said his team had trained in preparation for a tough challenge in Indonesia. “I can’t promise whether we will qualify for the group stage but we will try to do as well as possible,” he said.
“We are in a group with strong teams, so it’s a good place to get experience and step up our level of play,” added the respected South Korean tactician.
Cambodia find themselves in Group A alongside Vietnam, Timor-Leste, Myanmar, Philippines, and host Indonesia. Group B consists of Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, and Laos. .The competition is scheduled to take place between July 27 to August 11.
The Under-15 team departed for Malaysia yesterday morning where they play two friendly matches against the Malaysia U-16 national squad and the UITM U-19 team.
Cambodia’s participation in last years regional championships in Thailand was disappointing.
The youngsters, slumped to a 4-2 defeat by Malaysia in their final group game. Cambodia finished third in group B with two wins and three losses.
