Battambang Provincial Court yesterday charged a construction worker, described as an animal, who repeatedly raped his two daughters aged seven and eight.
Provincial deputy police chief Major General Cheth Vanny said the 38-year-old was charged with rape with aggravating circumstances and faces up to 15 years in jail if convicted. He is now in prison pending trial.
Maj Gen Vanny said the accused was arrested on Thursday after his wife lodged a report that he had raped the girls on several occasions in their house in Ek Phnom district while she was not at home.
District police officer Captain Oun Mom said the accused raped his daughters between May and July 2 when the mother was not present. He said the last rape took place on Thursday afternoon when the mother was out with the eight-year-old.
“He behaved like an animal and not a human being. He threatened and raped his own daughters,” he said. “Each time he got drunk and when his wife was not home, he would catch his daughters and have his way with them.”
“Whenever the daughters refused to have sex with him, he threatened to beat and kill them,” he added.
Cap Mon said the accused also molested the girls by touching their genitals and chests.
He said that the accused told the girls he would kill them and their mother if they reported him.
Cap Mon added that on July 11, the children finally had the courage to tell their mother when the father had left home for several days. The mother then lodged the police report against him.
Capt Mon said that during his interrogation, the accused confessed that he had sexually abused his daughters for several months whenever his wife was not at home.
