Israel to land first spacecraft on moon in 2019

JERUSALEM (Xinhua) – An Israeli non-profit organization has said that an Israeli spacecraft is scheduled to land on the moon for the first time at the beginning of 2019. The spacecraft will be launched this December, as a payload on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral in Florida, the US, before landing on the moon on February13, 2019. The lunar spacecraft which took eight years to build at a cost of $88 million, will be the smallest to land on the moon, weighing only 600 kilograms, and measuring 1.5 meters high and 2 meters in diameter. Its maximum speed will reach more than 10 km per second.
