Phnom Penh Municipal Court yesterday jailed a former karaoke manager and his girlfriend for six and five years respectively for drug trafficking.
Presiding Judge Horn Khemarin identified the two as Ny Sokleap, 28, who was also charged with having a weapon without a permit, and his girlfriend Nguon Hemalai, 24. Both were also fined 10 million riels (about $2,500).
They were arrested at about 7 pm on June 27 in Chamkar Mon district’s Tuol Svay Prey 1 commune, when police seized more than 30 grams of crystal methamphetamine and ketamine, a pistol, five bullets and other drug paraphernalia from their rental house.
Captain Heng Seng, a police officer with the municipal anti-drug department, said the accused were established drug dealers.
“They were distributors of drugs to users in karaoke and nightclubs,” he said. “They were arrested after they sold drugs to an undercover police officer.”
He added that police recovered 12 packages of crystal methamphetamine weighing 30 grams, four small packages of ketamine weighing 1.85 grams and three ecstasy tablets.
