Police in Pailin province’s Sala Krav district on Tuesday intercepted fourteen Chinese casino workers who were attempting to return home after only a few days on the job.

A district police officer who requested anonymity said the fourteen Chinese were stopped as they took a taxi to Siem Reap airport.

“We stopped fourteen of them along National Road 59 after the owner of the casino sought our help. We did not arrest them, we only stopped them and brought them back to the casino for talks,” he said.

“They were on their way to take a flight home after working at the casino for less than a week. I am not sure why they wanted to leave.”

The Chinese started work at Crown Casino on Saturday, but decided to leave without informing the casino manager on Tuesday, he added.

The officer said the workers would likely have to provide compensation to the casino.

Local media reported that the workers were unhappy with the salary they were being offered.

Casino representatives could not be reached for comment.
