The Environment Ministry will restrict the import and production of plastic bags from January 1, 2018 and as of January 10 shopping centres and supermarkets will charge for them.

According to the ministry’s press release on Friday, the ministry announced to the public, vendors and firm owners that the ministry and competent authorities will check on all imported and produced T-shirt plastic bags.

Furthermore, plastic bags that do not comply with the newly set standards will not be allowed to be produced in Cambodia or be imported.

The ministry said that the T-shirt bags must be 0.03 millimetre thick and 25 centimetres wide. Companies or businessmen who import plastic bags or produce them on a large scale must apply for ministerial approval to do so.
