Prime Minister Hun Sen has asked Cambodian peacekeepers working with the United Nations to be careful and pointed out the recent situation caused by the United States recognising Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

“I ask the Ministry of Defence as well as the committee in charge of sending the blue cap army out of the country to be careful in Lebanon,” Mr Hun Sen told hundreds of military men and women in Phnom Penh’s Prek Pnov district, where he inaugurated the construction of an intelligence building.

He said there had been confrontations between protesters and police defending the US embassy in Beirut.

Mr Hun Sen said some countries have held demonstrations against US President Donald Trump recognising Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

“This is a big issue that we need to pay attention to and monitor,” he said.

“Sometimes Israel might take revenge on the Palestinians and in some areas in Lebanon and I ask you to pay attention and monitor the developing situation in the Middle East because our forces are in Lebanon,” he added.
