The Ministry of Tourism has launched a campaign to stop people from throwing used tissues under the tables of restaurants and canteens across the country.

The movement, launched in early December and titled “Clean City, Clean Resort, Good Service and Best Hospitality” calls on restaurant owners, tour operators and the public to participate.

“Please use cloths instead of tissue for a cleaner and greener Cambodia,” the ministry said in a statement.

Chhay Sivlin, president of the Cambodia Association of Travel Agents praised the measure.

“If there is participation from everyone, it would be really special. We could reduce the use of tissue altogether and use a cloth instead,” she said. “The cleanliness will profit our tourism sustainability, and canteens and restaurants will be more hygienic.” The ministry also urged resort owners to make sure their guests use garbage bins and are encouraged to recycle.
