Provincial police in Battambang on Friday prevented more than 110 migrant workers from attempting to illegally cross the border into Thailand to seek work.
According to a National Police report, a total of 114 Cambodian workers, including 48 women and 38 children, were arrested while they were trying to cross the border into Thailand.
All of them came from Pursat province’s Kandieng district.
Police detained the group and explained the dangers of illegal migration. They also made the workers promise not to try to cross the border illegally again before allowing them to go home.
According to a report from the Interior Ministry, 91,412 workers were deported or returned through border crossings in the first six months of this year, including about 34,000 women and 4,400 children.
