Boeung Ket somewhat unexpectedly finished atop the Metfone C-League pile on Saturday, booking themselves in as the kingdom’s representatives in the impending end-of-year Toyota Mekong Club Championship (TMCC) 2017.
With previous leaders Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng suffering a 2-1 loss to Phnom Penh Crown and NagaWorld also falling to a 2-1 defeat to Cambodian Tiger, Boeung Ket claimed an unlikely first-place finish with a 4-3 win over Asia Europe United.
Boeung Ket, defending C-League champions, will now tackle Vietnam’s Sanna Khanh Hoa over two legs on December 9 and 13 with the victors progressing to the semi-finals to take on Laotian champions Lao Toyota.
Thai Premier League giants Muangthong United await in the final.
To determine champions of the 2017 C-League, the top four, Boeung Ket, Naga, PKR Svay Rieng and Ministry of National Defence will now meet in the playoff rounds later this month.
