PHNOM PENH, August 18, (Khmer Times) – The election of the leaders of the National Assembly (vice president and the heads of the various commissions) is to take place next Tuesday, August 26.
At the workshop on National Strategy about Food Security and Nutrition, Mr. Hun Sen said, “Today the president of the National Assembly is on official visit abroad. […] Don’t worry; the Cambodian People’s Party will complete the promise to vote for the candidate from Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP).”
Um Sam An, CNRP lawmaker, confirmed that voting for the leading heads of the National Assembly will take place on Aug.26. The deputy of the Commission on Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, Information, and Media – who will come from the CNRP – remained undetermined. Mr. Um Sam An said that his name may be revealed as the election date draws nearer.
On August 8, the National Assembly convened with both parties represented. The heads of the 10 commissions of the National Assembly have been set, with five of the commissions led by the CNRP, and the other five by the CPP.
Heng Samrin will remain the president, while the current first vice president Nguon Nhel will relinquish that position to the CNRP and become second vice president.
