Japan will open a consular office in Siem Reap province in January as part of its role as a strategic partner of Cambodia.

Japan’s Vice-Foreign Minister, Iwao Horii, told Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn of the development when they met on Thursday.

Cambodia’s Foreign Ministry said after the meeting that Japan would continue to provide assistance under the Japan-Cambodia Cooperation program.

Mr Horii also told Mr Sokhonn that Japan would help Cambodia organise next year’s national election.
