A fire ripped through 12 stalls at Kampong Pranak market in Preah Vihear province on Monday night, causing $100,000 of damage.
Preah Vihear town police chief Kong Kea said the stalls belonged to three vendors who sold a variety of products from food to cosmetics, almost all of which were destroyed.
“The fire was caused by an electric error because the vendors were careless with turning off the electricity in the stalls when they went home. The blaze started at about 10pm and it took an hour to bring it under control,” he said.
“We used three firefighting trucks and five tanks of water. The owners said the total cost of the damage is about 100,000 dollars.”
Mr Kea said the vendors sold meatballs, fruit, general groceries, cosmetics and children’s toys. Between 90 and 95 percent of the stock was destroyed but no one was injured.
