Phnom Penh Municipality plans to create a new water pumping station in Meanchey district next year in order to reduce city flooding in Sen Sok, Meanchey and Por Senchey districts.
Governor Khoung Sreng led a meeting at City Hall to find a solution to city flooding on Tuesday evening.
City Hall spokesman Met Measpheakdey said the city plans to create a new water pumping station named Lau Pram in Meanchey district next year in order to reduce floods.
Mr Measpheakdey added that Governor Sreng also ordered local authorities to restore some drainage systems, including the Lau Pram, Baraing and Deum Sleng systems, which are clogged with rubbish.
Sim Vuthea, a Meanchey district resident, said the streets around her home always flood because the Lau Pram drainage system does not work properly.
“When it rains a lot, my street always floods,” she said. “We are happy to hear that the city plans to clean the drainage system.”
