PHNOM PENH, August 15, (Khmer Times) – This morning a fire broke out at the Rong Qiang Company, a Chinese-owned cutting board manufacturer located on Veng Sreng Street, Stung Mean Chey District.

The building, in which various plastic products are manufactured, was ablaze at 7:15 on Friday morning.  The fire was reported early enough for the fire-fighters to have a short battle with the blaze.  At 8:00 the fire was out.

Two Chinese managers were the only ones in the plant. They were later questioned by the police.

It’s their job is to get the machines warmed up before the workers to arrive. One of the production machines’ motors overheated, Chief of the Phnom Penh Fire Department Neth Vantha reported.

The machine itself was heavily damaged, around 30 plastic boards were destroyed, and almost a quarter of the factory suffered smoke and water damage.

This is the fifty-fourth reported fire in Phnom Penh City this year.
