Cambodia’s COVID-19 control and containment efforts was severely affected when the 3rd community outbreak, dubbed the February 20 Community Event saw COVID-19 positive cases soar to more than 100.
Prime Minister Hun Sen when announcing this evening at 2045 said “This community event is worse than the previous two and in just three days, has become a more difficult situation than the previous two occasions to contain.
“I also appeal to all people in the country to avoid Phnom Penh as the city is in a health crisis and as such it is advisable not to come to the city for any purpose other than emergency needs,” he added.
Prime Minister Hun Sen also ordered all schools in Phnom Penh and Kandal to be closed for two weeks effective Tuesday, 23 February, 2021.
He also appealed to all wedding ceremonies to be cancelled and if cannot be done for whatever reason to scale down seating.
His planned events of inaugurating the Hyatt Regency Hotel and also attend a ceremony the Ministry of Interior is also now in doubt. Kong Srey, Khmer Times
