The 600,000 doses of one million Sinopharm vaccine donated by Chinese government arrived at the Phnom Penh International Airport at 4 pm today via a special aircraft, becoming the first COVID-19 vaccine to be used by Cambodian government.

Prime Minister Hun Sen and Chinese ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wentian came to the airport to receive the vaccines.

Mr Hun Sen said today that 300,000 out of the 600,000 doses will be allocated for the Health Ministry and another will be used for the Defence Ministry.

According to the Health Ministry, Sinopharm vaccine can only be injected on people aged between 18 and 59, saying the plan to vaccinate Mr Hun Sen, 68 and other senior government officials on February 10 will be cancelled.

Mr Hun Sen has confirmed that military doctors and health workers have been trained and are ready to be assigned to administer the vaccines.
