Cambodia’s Ministry of Health announced today that it has granted Emergency Use Authoridation to China’s Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine.

“The Ministry of Health of the Kingdom of Cambodia has authorised the use of Sinopharm’s COVID-19 vaccine, manufactured by the Beijing Institute of Biological Products Co., Ltd. of the People’s Republic of China, under the condition of the Emergency Use Authorisation, in accordance with the Protocol on Royal Government of Covid-19 Vaccination Campaign,” Heath Minister Mam Bunheng said in the announce today.

This announcement comes after Prime Minister Hun Sen’s confirmation that 600,000 doses of Sinopharm’s COVID-19 vaccine, the first batch of one million doses promised to Cambodia by China, will arrive in Cambodia this Sunday.

The Premier will personally go to receive the vaccine at Phnom Penh International Airport and according to an inside source, will get his first shot of the vaccine on Wednesday next week at Calmette hospital.

The China’s Sinopharm vaccine, with an efficacy rate of about 79 percent, so far has been used by millions across the globe, including Indonesian President Joko Widodo and Chinese leaders although it has not been approved by the World Health Organization yet.
